The Apprentice Edinburgh
The Student Market
The Student Market is a current project of iCUE, we’re building an online venue for student entrepreneurs to market and sell products and services to the university community.
This is an experiment in relationship marketing: one of the strongest and most effective tools for sales in small- to medium-sized businesses. There is already a cottage industry of students at the university selling custom-made boxers and artwork. Other students and recent graduates are working with organizations such as Launch and SIE to turn their business ideas into more concrete operational plans. The Student Market will be a way to further facilitate this trend and help student entrepreneurs reach a wider market.
This site will be different from any other trading site in that it will be community-focused and will allow a great deal of buyer-seller interaction. It will be perceived by the buyers as something which they have a say in and something they are a part of as university students. Instead of presenting cold commercial entities behind products, our site will emphasize the personality of the people behind them through allowing sellers to post and edit their own profiles. The comment boxes on each seller’s page on The Student Market site will allow for useful feedback from buyers and the editable profile will allow for communication with and response to the buyers.
The Apprentice
A 4 tier Business Competition with Hundreds of students competing in all facets of business and multiple venues around edinburgh
Apple will be hosting the first round this year with 20 teams of 5 giving a case study/challenge
The project team will be expected to market the event all over University in a multiple of mediums, including, newspapers, posters, flyering, online, radio etc
The Project will require commitment and the ability to work well as a team under varying degrees of pressure. The board are heavily involved in this event due to the scale of the project.
The first event is scheduled for February but a large amount of planning and marketing is required in the lead up. Each individual member will not need to commit too much time on a weekly basis but will be allocated tasks or challenges to complete for the event to take place, eg. Book a venue within the next week or get posters designed before the end of October etc.
Round 2 and 3 Will involve selling a product or an item for the participants still in the competition, done in and around campus
At each stage of the competition the teams will be roughly halved until only 2 teams remain for the last big competition, will be revealed only to the remaining teams.
Looking for sponsorship is a key part of the project but the board have a few 'hot' leads to get the team started and support and resources are available throughout
The project team will take a strong role in the events themselves acting as facilitators, judges, leaders etc. All 4 events will be in the month of February. At this point the rest of the society will be more involved as volunteers for each stage.
